Improving the quality of your VHS to DVD Transfers
Most VHS tapes are no longer seen when playing so well today as it did 20 years ago. They may suffer from all sorts of symptoms such as fading or degradation, distortion, flicker, etc. Often these problems can be so serious that can distract attention from the source. Fortunately, with a little knowledge and equipment, you can still get most of their old video tapes.
The first step to improve the quality of VHS tapes is to start at the source, and make sure the tape is clean and in good condition. Sometimes you can find you need to repair your VHS tape and put it in a new shell. You also have to find a good quality video. The transfer of poor quality tapes video will be much more difficult to recover with the software. It is always advisable to have the highest initial quality transfer possible.
Sometimes I found that video players, 90 play old tapes better than a brand new store. VCR are not all alike and what is sometimes a game of chance to find a fine piece of equipment. The types of video players that will give your most improvement in your VHS to DVD transfers would be a broadcast-quality brand professional or VCR with a built-in or independent confirmation, or correct based on time.
Once you have a good video in order, perhaps also look into obtaining a color correction unit. These ingenious devices to receive video signal from your VCR and let you fine-tune the colors of the video, so you can be very close to the original colors on the tape. Again, this step of correcting the color in the source of the transfer will save you hours of editing later. In some when different scenes will move to different colors, so it is advisable to check your video, so you can make adjustments as it is recording.
Once the video has been transferred to your computer, the last step is to edit the video clip through a video editor based software such as Final Cut Pro or Sony Vegas. With these programs you can tweak the video and remove any defects, and audio clean if necessary. If you follow these basic steps, which dramatically improve the quality of your VHS to DVD or VHS hard disk transfers.
