home theater wall question?
- I need something to serve as a divider between my work-in-progress home theater room and a playroom. Both are really made out of one large room. The ceiling is 8' and the width of the room is 13'. I need something that would go well with chocolate walls and white carpet. It has to be removable, there cannot be any kind of permanent wall between the home theater and playroom. It also must be below $500.00. Any recommendations?
Assuming this is a basement room I would use styrofoam insulation panels that you would find at a home center. They come in different thicknesses and are tongue and groove so you can interlock them.
What I would do is either glue (construction adhesive) or screw (TapCon screws if cement floor) two lengths of 1x3's to the floor and the bottom of your floor joists. Leave a gap slightly wider than the thickness of the insulation panels, slide them in and push tongue and groove edges together.
You won't be able to paint them with oil based paint because it will melt the styrofoam but latex may work. Or you can cover with wallpaper or a cloth. If you cover with wallpaper and want to remove the panels you'll need to cut slits at the joints.
If the room is in the living area of the home, you'll definitely want to modify how the panels are attached.
