One of the easiest DIY can tackle projects at home is rescreen the sliding door. rescreening the door will save you time and money, and the final product will result in a major facelift to the area of your home.
The first step in the door of his rescreening is to measure the height and width of the screen frame. Be sure to add at least 2 additional inches to both measurements, to make sure you have enough material. If you want to err on the side of caution, in 4 or 6 inches from each measurement.
When you go to the hardware store to buy new cloth screen, be sure to take some time to read about the benefits of each type of material. Find a material that is not going to be eaten by insects and contains some kind of UV inhibitor to prevent discoloration and deterioration. If you live in an area where mosquitoes are a problem, you may also want to choose a very fine mesh to prevent mosquitoes and other small errors to squeeze through. Note, however, that the finer mesh screens are also darker and let it shine less light.
There are several other items you want to pick up while you're at the hardware store. One is a product called spline screen. Spline is a fine material, rubber spaghetti is wrapped in a groove around a screen door to keep the screen in place. Spline comes in many sizes, so it is advisable to take a small piece of your existing spline that held the old screen in place. You also have to buy a tool special material from the spline into the groove, usually called a grooved roller. Most major hardware stores carry such tools, and do the job much faster and easier. Some even have small slots roller blades into a hook at the tip to cut the fabric of the upper screen, which is a much more secure than using a plain utility sheet.
Once back home with all its tools, you have to remove the screen door of the rolling track and find a flat for floor work. Clean porch or garage can work quite well. Start by removing the old strip of all slots. Once the strip is removed, the old screen cloth will pull away quite easily. If the channel to which the spline is dirty, now would be a good time to clean or vacuum out.
You are now ready to install your new screen. Center of the new piece of cloth over the opening screen, and begin rolling out its slot in the slot with the screen fabric underneath. If possible, have a second person to help with this process by holding Square screen is very useful. However, if you do not have someone to help, consider recording the four corners of the screen door frame with painters tape. This help keep the screen in place as you work your way around the door. Use the spline tool roller to roll the spline into place, ensuring that is deeply rooted in the channel. Continue this process, working your way around all four sides of the door. When finished, the screen should be fine stretched and taught. The final step is to cut the cloth over the screen. Perform this step carefully, you will not want to accidentally cut the new stretched screen.
Unless your door gets a lot of use or have small children or pets in your home, most homeowners only need to rescreen its doors once every 5-10 years. Once you've completed this project will have the satisfaction of having done the work yourself and know that you're ready for work again when the need comes.
