Help! Remodeling a brick fireplace 70.?
My wife and I bought a 1978 colonial, with a natural fireplace. The original brick is a bit old and have spoken by giving it a facelift. We have considered tile, stone, sheet rock and drywall installation on it to limit the brick sight. We have no idea about the cost - if we could do it ourselves (very little experience in home repair) or whether to hire. We want to prevent paint brick. The second issue is mounting a flat screen above the fireplace. We want to avoid exposed wires and are concerned about whether the height is too high to enjoy (We are stretching the neck) the viewing experience? What type of mount that works best? Cost estimate?
The best solution is a fake stone, light weight, affordable and simple enough in the average home owner should be able to apply. You can always tuckpoint brick, and even painting to change color. about the flat screen, run the power behind the wall (demo) before your new coverage with fireplace. IF you have not already set up a ledge fireplace, this will help to redirect the heat from the LCD screen. Some people recommend not installing television above the fireplace, due to heat, and I'm not 100% sure whether it is true, but hey that could void the warranty. But again many people still do that
