Blu-ray Disc and Blu-ray Region Codes - What does this mean?
Blu-ray DVD produced to play some discs only authorization one geographic region. Is comparable to that of DVD region codes, but instead of using numbers, Blu-ray uses the letters A, B and C to distinguish between regions. You can usually tell what region of Blu-ray Disc Player is looking at the bottom of the player or the owner's manual. The three distinct regions are following:
Region A - This region encompasses nearly all of North, Central and South America, and Southeast Asian countries, including the Republic of China (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Japan and Korea.
Region B - This region consists of, in southwestern Africa Asia and most European countries and New Zealand and Australia.
Region C - This region corresponds to the south-central Asia and the remaining countries, including Russia and the People's Republic of China.
As for the particles, this means that if you have a Blu-ray Disc which is the region code A, you must have a region of a Blu-ray DVD player to see the movie. The reason behind region codes is to allow movie providers, producers or movie studios, to regulate the different content, release dates, prices, etc for each region. However, while The Blu-ray Disc players are required to support the regional coding, content providers are not. There is even a current trend of movie studios to produce region free Blu-ray Discs that can be played on any Blu-ray player, regardless of region code.
Movie studios such as Universal and Paramount Pictures released the film as region free. Sony and Warner Bros. have released most of its region free movies. Walt Disney and Lionsgate tend to have a mix of movie releases region free and region code. While Blu-ray films from MGM and Twentieth Century are almost always released with region codes.
Region Free Blu-ray looks great, but you have to be aware of certain factors. Most Blu-ray standard resolution of additional features. Things like director interviews, deleted, or extra scenes and trailers. These additional features can be in NTSC or PAL. So if you are in a PAL region basis, it may not be able to access any recorded NTSC features on the Blu-ray Disc. Subtitles in your language is another thing to consider.
Multiregion Blu-ray Disc Players
Multiregion Blu-ray DVDs are capable of playing all regions 3, A, B and C. These Blu-ray players do not require a PAL NSTC TV to watch Blu-ray discs. Any standard TV that has HDMI inputs, you can show movies without the need of a converter.
