you downloaded an AVI file format.will not play in my dvd player.can I can change the format to mpg or jpg or any other?
It really depends on AVI format you have and what your DVD player supports. Definitely would have to re-encode the AVI file format to MPEG, but again this depends on your player DVD. Some DVD players are compatible with AVI, but the codec is not supported. There are a lot of software available to create DVD's, however you are trying just play the file as it is? Some DVD players support DivX codec, but again this depends on the file you currently have and how it is encoded (Codecs). If possible provide some more details about the file (if you want!) And your DVD player. I personally use Nero to create my DVD's and works well. Also I used Ulead, Nero Roxio and Sonic products, however, has been fairly consistent for me.
