Can Ubuntu boot through a flash drive?

About a month ago my 80GB PS3 blue ray lazer went to shit, so I was impatient just go buy another playstation 3 (I'm addicted to cod MW2). Anyway I want to install linux on my ps3 old, keeping in mind that it still works. But the problem is I can not boot a live CD. So you can boot Ubuntu on the PS3 via a USB drive?
