King is also perhaps the most influential of all blues singers famous and all that have followed have taken a little of this multi-talented but humble superstar.
The seeds of his talent were sown in the early blues-rich Mississippi Delta, where he grew up. Life was not easy for him as a youth. Was continuously transported back and forth between her mother and grandmother's house, where he spent long hours of hard work as a sharecropper and and many hours praising the Lord in the church, and he played gospel songs and honed the skills that would later be enjoyed by millions around the world.
Jimmy Rushing has been called the greatest of all blues singers, big bands and many of the current standards of blues are credited to their skills as a writer, "Good Morning Blues," "Goin 'to Chicago", "Boogie Woogie" and many others. The song "Mr. Five Five "was written in his honor and is said to describe him as five feet tall and five feet wide.
Marlena Shaw was born in 1942 in New York and was named Marlina Burgess birth. She was influenced by his uncle and grandmother early in life that exposed her to gospel music from the beginning and helped develop his love of music and sound seductive and sensual.
At the tender age of ten he made his debut before a live audience at the famed Apollo Theatre in Harlem, where he worked with his uncle. It was a huge success they were invited to perform again next week. It turned out that his uncle had double booked the night and pre-teen went on to perform solo before an audience surprised and very happy.
His big break came when she was invited to preform with the Count Basie Orchestra as say the rest is history. It is easy to understand the appeal of his versatile style and his voice soft as silk. Marlena is still performing today and his voice is still as sweet, seductive and sensual as ever.
Born in Mississippi in 1934, Otis Rush is a renowned blues singer and guitarist. His style is unique and distinctive style slow burning and long bent notes endorsed. His blues style is known as the West Side style of Chicago and has proven to be an influence on singers such as Eric Clapton, Luther Allison and Magic Sam, among others.
