According to Home Media Magazine sales of HD DVD for the first six months was about seven ninety-five thousand, but sales of blu ray and disks are larger than HD DVD. The blu ray disc sales during the first six months was about 1.6 million euros.

The other reasons that made the blue ray discs were more popular support from major studios such as The Lionsgate, Disney, Sony, etc. The Sony Play station also support the Blu Ray players also showed their interest in blu ray format. Therefore, many players are willing to spend more dollars to buy the new Blu-ray DVD.

These units are known as dual format DVD. NEC, Sony and LG are the companies that are making these dual-format players. It is really surprising since Sony is the main supporter of Blu-ray technology. Sony company making dual-format players could be due to the Sony does not want to lose in the competition of DVD formats.
